Features interviews with six self-taught Appalachian artists, who offer viewers a rare look inside their working spaces as they create art and talk about their lives. Collector Ramona Lampell, a native of West Virginia, shares her motivation for collecting Appalachian art to counter the stereotypes often attached to the region. The artists in the film include sculptors, painters, woodcarvers and basket makers who have drawn upon their experiences, knowledge of the natural environment, and readily available materials, such as wood, clay, stone, house paint and found objects, to create their art.
