In 1955, local citizens and a group of scientists from the University of Miami established an aquarium, tourist attraction and research center on the beachfront of Okaloosa Island. Since that time, millions of visitors have toured this signature Gulf Coast landmark, now known as Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park. Home to an underwater world of marine mammals, reptiles, birds and fish of all descriptions, the Gulfarium also provides up-close animal encounters and is involved in a variety of wildlife preservation efforts. The program is hosted by Sherri Hemminghaus Weeks.
