The small town of LaBelle in Hendry County lured settlers with vast land and rich soil. Since the early 1800s, hunters, trappers, farmers, "Catttle Kings," soldiers and sawmill operators have discovered the picturesque settlement nestled in the oak hammock along the shores of the Caloosahatchee River. LaBelle's first spirited pioneers survived floods, freezes, and fires in their quest to tame the wild frontier.
