Julie Penrose was an astute community leader, dedicated philanthropist and patron of the arts. She was one of the most influential women of her time in the growth of Colorado and Colorado Springs. She founded numerous institutions and contributed to many organizations, all of which are still alive today. Her personal commitment and tireless leadership supported many institutions across the arts, education, healthcare and human services. Julie and her husband, Spencer, created the El Pomar Foundation which was, and is still today, dedicated to the people of Colorado and Colorado Springs. The Julie Penrose Award is presented annually to outstanding women who, like Julie, are making a significant contribution to their community.
