Gale Norton was the first female Colorado Attorney General and the first woman to be appointed as Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. As Attorney General, Gale helped negotiate the most extensive legal settlement in history, the $206 billion national tobacco settlement. Gale is an ardent advocate and champion for public interest in environmental policy and protection of natural resources. She served as Secretary of the Interior during tumultuous times: 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. energy crisis, 70 year water dispute, and other major issues. Gale is an exceptional role model for all women, and especially those who are interested in the law and public policy.
