Lee's Flower Drum Song 3.) 1939 - Wah Ming Chang Joins the Disney Studios Special effects master Wah Ming Chang, cinematographer James Wong Howe, and director Ang Lee are Chinese Americans who have opened the door for other Chinese Americans in the movie industry. 4.) 1939 - Chinese Americans Answer the Call to Defend Democracy - During WWII, flying ace Arthur Chin, was the first Chinese American World War II, and he was followed by Francis Wai and Naval Captain Gordon Chung-Hoon, who fought at the Battle for Okinawa against Japanese Kamikazes. 5.) 1943 - Magnuson Act Repeals the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 - The Magnuson Act, over turned Chinese Exclusion, in the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, and was later followed by the McCarran Walter Act and the Hart Celler Act.
