Duration: 0:26:54

Description: B) The Rivers in our Lives Streams and rivers form North Carolina's circulatory system. Almost every major town in North Carolina owes its existence to a river. For most North Carolinians, rivers are essential to the generation of power (by cooling of turbines), provide recreation, and contribute immeasurably to quality of life. After a brief look at a number of cities and the rivers to which they are connected, this episode will focus on the city of Salisbury and its relationship to the Yadkin River. In this program the importance of forest buffers along a river will be emphasized. Guests in this episode include former Salisbury Mayor Susan Kluttz, former director of the Land Trust for Central North Carolina, Jason Walser, and Jim Fox, Director for UNC Asheville's National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center.
