After some careful watching, she realizes that a butterfly doesn't even have a mouth, but a proboscis, which looks like a long straw, and that's how they drink nectar from a flower! An innovator in the "Design-Build" school of architecture, Vermonter David Sellers has successfully carved out his own niche in the world of international architecture. For the past three decades, Sellers has left his mark on buildings all over the country by combining his talents as a builder and designer. After graduating from Yale Architecture School, Sellers began his career with the acclaimed 1965 Prickley Mountain project outside Warren, Vermont. In this hillside cluster of houses, Sellers and a group of "design-build" architects from all over the country used their understanding of materials and spaces to create a unique set of sculptural, yet functional, structures that are still lived in today. Since then, David Sellers has brought his talents to even larger projects such as the renovation of St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City and a winery dug into the California hills. But even with his high profile in the architectural world, Sellers lives and works in the small Vermont town that first gave him his inspiration. In this feature segment, we meet David Sellers at his home and office in Warren, Vermont and join him for a personal tour of his work, from the first house he built on Prickley Mountain to the construction site of his latest architectural endeavor.
