Shag is a documentary film from South Carolina ETV about the swing-type dance that has become a phenomenon in the Carolinas. Descended from the "Big Apple" dance, related to the jitterbug and the lindy, the shag has been incredibly popular along the Atlantic Coast since the 1940s. For years, Carolinians and visitors have been shagging to upbeat rhythm-and-blues music now called "beach music". This film traces the shag's history and presents some of the ongoing enthusiasm that people in the Southeast feel for the dance. Using rare black-and-white film clips, old snapshots, vintage home movies, and new dance footage, this half-hour documentary presents an informative and entertaining look at what may be the longest-lasting dance craze of all time.
