Domestic violence is an issue here in the U.S., and around the world. Both men and women can be victims of domestic violence, but overwhelmingly, around the globe, women tend to be the victims of their male intimate partners. In this lecture, Dr. Esther Schwartz-McKinzie takes a look at domestic violence in China, a country which has taken unprecedented strides forward in the area of economic development in the past two decades. Does the status of women automatically advance as a country advances? What does activism about this issue look like in a country that desires to control speech—in the classroom, in the media, and even online? And, what does resistance look like?
