Circle Up
CIRCLE UP is the story of a grieving mother, the men who murdered her son, and the unexpected relationships they create to prevent more violence. Janet Connors' son Joel was murdered in Boston by four young men. Three of the men make a plea agreement but the main perpetrator walks free on "reasonable doubt." Janet realized she needed to make her own justice. But instead of exacting vengeance, Janet becomes the first person in Massachusetts to hold a Victim-Offender Dialogue through the corrections system and develops a deep relationship with one of her son's murderers. Janet enrolls in restorative justice training and with other survivor moms begins working in schools, prisons, and social service agencies to help people heal from trauma, resolve conflict, prevent violence, and build community.

Medicine Game
THE MEDICINE GAME, a film six years in the making, shares the remarkable journey of two brothers from the Onondoga Nation driven by a single goal-to beat the odds and play the sport of lacrosse for national powerhouse Syracuse University. The Onondaga Nation, tucked away in central New York State, is a sovereign Native American community known to produce some of the top lacrosse players in the world. The Iroquois people play a ceremonial game of lacrosse, referred to as the "medicine game" - a very important medicine ceremony played to ward off sicknesses from the tribe. The obstacles in the brothers' way are frequent and daunting, but their love for the game, each other, and their family's unyielding determination propels these young men towards their dream. Aging Backwards 2 with Miranda Esmonde-White
Many people think that how they age - if they remain mobile, healthy, and pain free throughout their entire lives - is simply the result of luck. As though there's a randomness to it, or it's a lottery in which only a few winners enjoy golden years of youthful vitality. But did you know that you actually have a choice in how you age? In AGING BACKWARDS 2 WITH MIRANDA ESMONDE-WHITE, former professional ballerina Miranda Esmonde-White uses new and groundbreaking science to help put an end to this defeatist attitude towards aging. In her previous award-winning special Aging Backs, Esmonde-White revealed the power of our muscle cells. Now in AGING BACKWARDS 2, viewers discover the amazing clout of their connective tissue. This vital tissue surrounds every part of us and connects - every muscle, nerve, cell, bone and organ. Keeping it healthy is the secret to remaining youthful at any age. The human body is a powerful machine, but we must choose to keep it young. The fountain of youth is within each of us, and Esmonde-White teaches viewers how to access it.

Bigger Than T.rex
Almost a century ago, paleontologists found the first tantalizing hints of a monster even bigger than Tyrannosaurus Rex, perhaps the largest predator ever to walk the Earth: spectacular fossil bones from a dinosaur dubbed Spinosaurus. But the fossils were completely destroyed during a World War II Allied bombing raid, leaving only drawings, lots of questions, and a mystery: What was Spinosaurus? Now, the discovery of new bones in a Moroccan cliff face is reopening the investigation into this epic beast. What did it feed on and how? Why did it grow so big? We follow the paleontologists who are reconstructing this terrifying carnivore piece by piece, revealing a 53-foot-long behemoth with a huge dorsal sail, enormous, scimitar-like claws, and massive superjaws, tapered toward the front like a crocodile, hosting an army of teeth. It is a painstaking puzzle, and it is missing many of its pieces. NOVA follows researchers on the hunt for more fossils, tracing ancient history along with the very modern drama of how the bones of the Spinosaurus were discovered, seized, bombed, stolen and smuggled across international borders. Bringing together experts in paleontology, geology, climatology and paleobotany, this NOVA/National Geographic special brings to life the lost world over which Spinosaurus reigned more than 65 million years ago.

Rick Steves' Heart of Italy
In RICK STEVES' HEART OF ITALY, Rick delves deep into the Italian heartland - the place where la dolce vita is a way of life. Starting in Umbria, he connects with rustic, traditional culture: sleeping at an agriturismo (a farmhouse inn), seeing how prosciutto and pecorino cheese are made (and eaten), and hiking down into ancient and fragrant wine cellars. Then he tours Assisi, with its inspirational story of St. Francis, its stop-and-smell-God's-roses spirituality, its delicate Giotto masterpieces, and its awe-inspiring basilica. In Siena, Rick enjoys a front-row seat at its wild horse race - the venerable Palio - and marvels at cultural treasures from the city's glory days, when it rivaled Florence for dominance in Tuscany. He finishes with the ultimate Riviera getaway: the Cinque Terre, where he gets to know each of the "five lands" - from the dramatic, vineyard-surrounded Vernazza to hardscrabble Riomaggiore, to the pint-sized resort of Monterosso. Fishing for anchovies, sipping wine out of rustic barrels, bringing flowers to hilltop cemeteries, and savoring twinkling Mediterranean vistas, Rick visits his favorite stretch of Mediterranean coastline. From hill towns to harbors, and from vino rosso to Giotto, RICK STEVES' HEART OF ITALY savors the good life in the Italian heartland.

Backs Against The Wall: The Howard Thurman Story
The documentary BACKS AGAINST THE WALL: THE HOWARD THURMAN STORY chronicles the extraordinary life of Theologian Howard Thurman, a poet and "mystic" who used religious expression to help ignite sweeping social change. Thurman was born the grandson of slaves in segregated Daytona, Florida. Despite the circumstances of his upbringing, he went on to become one of the great spiritual and religious pioneers of the 20th century, whose words and influence continue to echo today. His landmark book, Jesus and the Disinherited, was the first to state that Jesus Christ - who was born in poverty as part of a powerless minority - lived a life that spoke directly to black Americans. In his own time, Thurman was a celebrated religious figure with profiles in major magazines such as LOOK, Ebony and others. His efforts at the height of World War II to create the nation's first interfaith, interracial church stands as a precursor for many contemporary faith communities. And for millions today who consider themselves "spiritual but not religious," Thurman's poetry, meditations, sermons and prayers continue to be wildly popular.

Nothing Left to Lose
Nothing Left to Lose is a documentary which tells the story of approximately 100 Vietnamese refugees who have each lived in hiding for 25 years hoping to one day reclaim the dignity of being recognized as a person. While the Vietnam War slowly fades away in our collective memory, there remains a group of Vietnamese in Thailand who are still searching for a new place to call home. These refugees escaped Vietnam after the end of the war, but were rejected by all countries in which they sought asylum. When all refugee camps in Southeast Asia were closed, the stateless refugees chose to stay in Thailand illegally, holding onto the hope of finding a new home. Over the last 25 years, the stateless Vietnamese have lingered in the shadows of Thai society dodging authorities with one hope in mind: to find a country that would accept them as its citizens.

Polytrauma Rehab in the Va: Compassionate Care
POLYTRAUMA REHAB IN THE VA: COMPASSIONATE CARE is an hour-long documentary that gives unprecedented access to the medical staff and their patients - veteran and active service members with both combat and civilian-related traumatic brain injury and polytrauma - at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Named in honor of Hunter Holmes McGuire, M.D., the personal physician to Confederate Major General Stonewall Jackson during the Civil War, the facility was created in the late 19th century and became the first Veteran Administration hospital to offer heart transplant surgery in the 1970s. The hospital's polytrauma center is one of only five in the country that provides physical recovery and rehabilitation, plus services for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Each treatment is tailored around the individual patient, to make it as purposeful and beneficial as possible. In POLYTRAUMA REHAB IN THE VA, viewers are introduced to several employees of the medical center, including Dr. Ajit Pai, who was named to lead the polytrauma unit at the age of 29. He is dedicated to his patients and is known for advocating new medical techniques, while also weighing heavily the patient's requests. His philosophy is that patients know their bodies better than anyone, so why not listen to them and involve them in the healing and rehabilitation process? In addition, the film also provides an in-depth view of what goes on within the walls of the hospital, and offers the perspective of doctors, medical staff, and family members, along with personal stories of the patients themselves. POLYTRAUMA REHAB IN THE VA: COMPASSIONATE CARE captures the bond that staff and patients form, which fosters not only physical healing, but emotional recovery.
