A new redistricting map serves as a voting rights win for Navajo citizens in New Mexico. In 2021 the Navajo Nation sued San Juan County for their attempt to dilute the voting power of Navajo voters. The county's old map packed Navajo citizens into one district, suppressing their voting power and ability to set policy priorities for local seats.
