May 10, 1959. Dr. Stephens believes that his discovery in the field of anti-gravity will endanger mankind, and so destroys all his papers and disappears. Brady is asked by Stephens' daughter to track him down.
July 11, 1955. Multiple thefts have occurred without a trace of the perpetrator, and Holmes is becoming eccentric, while Dr. Watson becomes suspicious of his activities.

This episode refers to the US strategy of surrounding and strangling the Japanese base in the autumn of 1943 through invasions of its surrounding islands (Bougainville, Rendova).

British and Greek military forces, however, defeat the Italians, forcing the Germans to send the Afrika Korps. But it is the sea battles to control the Mediterranean that is the crux.
