FAT BOY: THE BILLY STEWART STORY chronicles the life and career of one of the most popular rhythm and blues singers of the 1960s, tracing his journey from a young piano player to a famous R&B balladeer. Growing up, Stewart's early passion and talent made him a Washington, D.C. legend, and he regularly sang in area nightclubs and other popular venues across the city. After meeting Bo Diddley in 1955, Stewart joined his band and headed to Chicago, where he first signed with Chess Records. However, it wasn't until the early '60s that Stewart began recording a string of hits, such as "Reap What You Sow," "Fat Boy," "I Do Love You" and "Sitting in the Park." Stewart's soulful music touched audiences all over the country, from New York to California and beyond. Every day we make decisions. Some are simple - Rocky Road or Cherry Garcia, bus or walk, umbrella or not. Some decisions are considerably more complex - accept or reject a proposal of marriage, live where you are or move. And some decisions change the world. In this program, Burt takes viewers to Paris, the Basque country of Spain, San Francisco, California, Washington, D.C. and New York City to research the decisions that resulted in the Atomic Bomb being dropped on Hiroshima, a painting that showed the world that Franco and Hitler had teamed-up to murder the people of Guernica, and how, in the middle of the San Francisco earthquake, the Bank of America got started. Burt also talks to Bob Dilenschneider, a communications expert, about how you can make your most effective decisions.

Not all seeds are created equal, nor should we be treating them as if they are. These days, more gardeners than ever are growing their own food. The seeds they choose to purchase and plant can impact a lot more than their own backyard garden.

We uncover the story of our relationship with the skies from our earliest ancestors, through to the birth of the science of astronomy. Our story begins with one of the earliest known creation myths - the Babylonian Enuma Elish. With spectacular CGI animation, we see the clash of the gods Marduk and Tiamat that the Babylonians believed gave birth to the earth and the sky. In this episode we visit the caves of El Castillo in Northern Spain. Deep inside the caves we see some of the earliest cave paintings in the world. Astronomer Phil Plait shows us how the skies could be used to navigate and tell the time, either by observing the phases of the moon, or by tracking the movements of the sun across the horizon. We look at Stonehenge and the Great Pyramid of Giza and see that, as our earliest civilisations developed, we built monuments that enabled us to observe the skies and worship them. We visit Ancient Greece, where the great storytellers Hesiod and Homer were populating the world with gods and monsters. That is until the first philosophers started to look at the world not in terms of individual events that showed the actions of living gods in the sky, but as phenomena that were all part of the patterns of the natural world. As philosophy and early science start to reshape the world from mythological to rational, we are on the cusp of a revolution that gave birth to modern science.

INSIDE HIGH NOON explores both the landmark 1952 film starring Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges and Katy Jurado, and the gripping story behind its troubled production. The documentary reveals how many of the studios passed on the project and major Hollywood actors turned it down before Gary Cooper accepted the lead role. When it was ultimately released, High Noon was seen by some as an attack on the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). At least half-a-dozen people involved in the production were blacklisted; among them, screenwriter Carl Foreman and cinematographer Floyd Crosby. Gary Cooper put his career on the line for Foreman during and after production, hailing him as "The finest kind of American." INSIDE HIGH NOON also explores the film itself: why it has aroused controversy among critics, how its treatment of women and of masculinity was ahead of its time, and why HIGH NOON has come to be seen as a masterpiece of American cinema. The documentary weaves together clips from High Noon and analysis and commentary from Tim Zinneman (son of director Fred Zinneman), Jonathan Foreman (son of screenwriter Carl Foreman), Crown Prince Albert of Monaco (Grace Kelly's son), Maria Cooper (Gary Cooper's daughter), President Bill Clinton, and many film critics and historians. 2022 is the 70th anniversary of the release of High Noon.

Story in the Public Square is a weekly, public affairs show designed to study, celebrate, and tell stories that matter. The show is inspired by the power of stories to shape public understanding of important issues. For example, Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," shined a crucial light on the violence and inhumanity of American slavery, fueled the abolition movement, and inspired Abraham Lincoln, upon meeting the author, to say "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war." Narrative is no less important today-though the vehicles for dissemination are much more diverse. From a great novel to a film, a song, or even a Tweet, stories still very much impact the way the American public looks at issues. Our show turns a critical eye to these stories and their tellers.
