The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library presents the annual McDermott Lecture, featuring Dr. Anne Margaret Daniel. Dr. Daniel teaches at the New School University in New York City and has degrees in American history and English literature, and has published widely on F. Scott Fitzgerald and the work of Bob Dylan. The McDermott Lecture is named for Richard P. McDermott, who helped restore Fitzgerald?s birthplace in the 1970s and remained an avid supporter of Fitzgerald activities before passing away in 2012. This program is made possible in part by the State of Minnesota through an appropriation to the Minnesota Department of Education, funding The Friends as the Library of Congress-designated Minnesota Center for the Book.

EDT takes audiences to lands shrouded in mountain mists and fog, visiting cultures from remote regions that remain largely untouched by modern trends. Cultures presented on stage include the Carpatho-Rusyn people of eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine, a Jewish couple from northeastern Hungary, and the Saxons of Transylvania. The picture would not be complete without a visit to the Ukrainians of Bukovina, the Hungarians of central Transylvania, the Romanians of Oas, the Polish highlanders of Podhale, and the Vlach people living along the Homolje range of the Carpathians in eastern Serbia.
