When Alfred is severely wounded, Lia pushes on and fights to save both of their lives.

Fire plays a huge factor in offering warmth, cooking food, and purifying hauled water for many Dine' relatives during the cold seasons that do not have electricity. Chizh For Cheii (CFC) is a grassroots organization founded in 2011 by Dine' Actor/Musician/Activist Loren Anthony. In 2020 Loren and his team cut and delivered 1,700 loads of firewood which is over $500,000 in mutual aid. With his team of dedicated volunteers Loren not only provided firewood , but over 112, 000 food boxes and supplies and home repairs throughout the winter to the elders in our Dine' community. What began as an idea to aid our community, has turned into a movement of love, hope, and inspiration under Loren's leadership.

Her artwork was featured on Super Bowl LVII tickets, displays, footballs and more. Amongst this notable work is a 9, 500-square-foot mural, the largest to date created for a Super Bowl. La Morena, who is Chicanx, Apache, O'odham and Yaqui, enlisted the help of other Indigenous Artists from various Native and Indigenous Nations to complete the mural in just 22 days. It was a team driven by strong and resilient women. Native Hope Champions: Las Morenas, is a segment that highlights some, but not all of the artists, including "CC" Carie Sage Curley (Apache), Eunique Yazzie (Navajo), Anitra "Yukue" Molina (Pascua Yaqui), and Jessie Yazzie (Dine').

This episode features a conversation with cultural leaders and community stakeholders, including, Aaron Leggett, the Chief of the Denaina Eklutna Athabascan people, and the Special Exhibit Curator at the Anchorage Museum. The subject of these conversation is about the Indigenous Place Names Movement, and an event that was taking place on this particular day of unveiling the first place marker reclaiming the Denaina Eklutna Athabaskan original place name of Chanstnu, which for many years prior had been called Westchester Lagoon. A goal of Aaron and others behind this movement is to carry out the rest of this project's vision by reclaiming the original indigenous place names and denoting them with place markers all over the city of anchorage. There are also plans for a digital, oral history walking tour that people can use to explore anchorage and understand its indigenous history. The hope is that the take away is why indigenous place renaming is important, and how it helps community members define their cultural identities today by strengthening their resolve to chart their path forward as an individual connected to their heritage. A goal for the Indigenous Place Names project is for it to be used as a model for other places around the state of Alaska and other places that have strong indigenous ties. Rich Francis visits the Mi?kmaq community of Lennox Island, PEI, where he discovers the "Pearl of the Malpeque Bay", Oysters! He will visit with Sarah Bernard, a local Cultural Liaison and cook, who will treat Rich to her family's famous Seafood Chowder. He'll also meet with "Captain Jimmy" Bernard, a Lennox Island Elder who has worked with archeologists who have uncovered ancient artifacts near Lennox Island buried by time alongside piles of oyster shells that carbon date to 10,000 years old! Together, they will teach Rich about the history and relevance of Oysters to the Mi'kmaq of PEI. Rich will also tour the Bideford Shellfish Hatchery with manager and Lennox Island's Head of Economic Development Mike Randall to get a glimpse into how the locals keep Malpeque Bay teeming with what is arguably one of the world's most famous oysters, and learn how the oyster industry is helping drive Lennox Island's economic future. And he'll head out on the bay with a local oyster harvester to "tong" a boatload of market-ready oysters, learning what goes into bringing this delicacy from the bay to the plate. With his culinary imagination sparked by the flavours found in the boreal forest of Lennox Island, Rich brings his new learnings to the firepit, inspired to create some new and exciting Oyster dishes for everyone to enjoy, including the viewers at home. Finally, he'll attend the Lennox Island celebrations of National Indigenous Peoples' Day as a special guest, preparing and handing out his unique oyster creations to the community and visitors celebrating together!

This episode features a conversation with cultural leaders and community stakeholders, including, Aaron Leggett, the Chief of the Denaina Eklutna Athabascan people, and the Special Exhibit Curator at the Anchorage Museum. The subject of these conversation is about the Indigenous Place Names Movement, and an event that was taking place on this particular day of unveiling the first place marker reclaiming the Denaina Eklutna Athabaskan original place name of Chanstnu, which for many years prior had been called Westchester Lagoon. A goal of Aaron and others behind this movement is to carry out the rest of this project's vision by reclaiming the original indigenous place names and denoting them with place markers all over the city of anchorage. There are also plans for a digital, oral history walking tour that people can use to explore anchorage and understand its indigenous history. The hope is that the take away is why indigenous place renaming is important, and how it helps community members define their cultural identities today by strengthening their resolve to chart their path forward as an individual connected to their heritage. A goal for the Indigenous Place Names project is for it to be used as a model for other places around the state of Alaska and other places that have strong indigenous ties. Chizh for Cheii (Dine' for 'firewood for grandpa') is providing a warm home environment for Dine' elders living on the Navajo Nation. Many elders on Navajo Nation live in remote rural areas with limited resources to acquire their household needs, such as firewood. Fire plays a huge factor in offering warmth, cooking food, and purifying hauled water for many Dine' relatives during the cold seasons that do not have electricity. Chizh For Cheii (CFC) is a grassroots organization founded in 2011 by Dine' Actor/Musician/Activist Loren Anthony. In 2020 Loren and his team cut and delivered 1,700 loads of firewood which is over $500,000 in mutual aid. With his team of dedicated volunteers Loren not only provided firewood , but over 112, 000 food boxes and supplies and home repairs throughout the winter to the elders in our Dine' community. What began as an idea to aid our community, has turned into a movement of love, hope, and inspiration under Loren's leadership.
Lucinda Hinojos, known professionally as La Morena, was commissioned by the NFL as the first Native American artist to design theme art for a Super Bowl. Her artwork was featured on Super Bowl LVII tickets, displays, footballs and more. Amongst this notable work is a 9, 500-square-foot mural, the largest to date created for a Super Bowl. La Morena, who is Chicanx, Apache, O'odham and Yaqui, enlisted the help of other Indigenous Artists from various Native and Indigenous Nations to complete the mural in just 22 days. It was a team driven by strong and resilient women. Native Hope Champions: Las Morenas, is a segment that highlights some, but not all of the artists, including "CC" Carie Sage Curley (Apache), Eunique Yazzie (Navajo), Anitra "Yukue" Molina (Pascua Yaqui), and Jessie Yazzie (Dine').

Set on the former grounds of the Duke of Buckingham, Dan takes Art to his old school, Stowe, to try and teach Art how to fly fish. A nearby farm provides just what they need to go with their catch. Art sidelines Dan with his plans to create a meatless meal. Once the shock subsides, the pair meet with a "meatless butcher" in Victoria as well as glean produce from local orchards and farms. They even study waste reduction from a seasoned dumpster diver. Rich Francis visits the Mi?kmaq community of Lennox Island, PEI, where he discovers the "Pearl of the Malpeque Bay", Oysters! He will visit with Sarah Bernard, a local Cultural Liaison and cook, who will treat Rich to her family's famous Seafood Chowder. He'll also meet with "Captain Jimmy" Bernard, a Lennox Island Elder who has worked with archeologists who have uncovered ancient artifacts near Lennox Island buried by time alongside piles of oyster shells that carbon date to 10,000 years old! Together, they will teach Rich about the history and relevance of Oysters to the Mi'kmaq of PEI. Rich will also tour the Bideford Shellfish Hatchery with manager and Lennox Island's Head of Economic Development Mike Randall to get a glimpse into how the locals keep Malpeque Bay teeming with what is arguably one of the world's most famous oysters, and learn how the oyster industry is helping drive Lennox Island's economic future. And he'll head out on the bay with a local oyster harvester to "tong" a boatload of market-ready oysters, learning what goes into bringing this delicacy from the bay to the plate. With his culinary imagination sparked by the flavours found in the boreal forest of Lennox Island, Rich brings his new learnings to the firepit, inspired to create some new and exciting Oyster dishes for everyone to enjoy, including the viewers at home. Finally, he'll attend the Lennox Island celebrations of National Indigenous Peoples' Day as a special guest, preparing and handing out his unique oyster creations to the community and visitors celebrating together!

The origin of the Dooky Chase Restaurant, established in 1941, was a sandwich shop across the street owned by Edgar "Dooky" Chase Sr. and his wife Emily. Chefs Dook Chase and Cleo Robinson return to the restaurant's roots with three hearty sandwiches - French Fried Potato Po-boy, Hot Sausage Po-boy, and Pork Chop and Oyster Po-boy.

As a conclusion to a wonderful painting Jerry adds final details. #6 bristle brush and dark tone to tap in clock-wise motion to add the airy canopy over the top with leafy effects. Same technique is used to bring the light up in the painting -- for highlighting yellows into base of trees and grasses plus underbrush and saplings. Jerry uses some red to bring eye in toward the steps and to further embed the trees in the natural beauty. Jerry adds weeds in foreground with #4 script brush plus a few saplings at the base of the trees. Now Jerry uses #6 bristle to add brighter colors (orangey-red) to finish off painting plus some green to tap in some yellow-green weed-growth around base and top of steps and wall. Final warm highlights to create soft sunlight and shadows plus with the #4 round sable and using orange and purple Jerry scumbles to put final edges on leaves to make them look more like individual leaves.

American Coup: Wilmington 1898 tells the little-known story of a deadly race massacre and carefully orchestrated insurrection in North Carolina's largest city in 1898 -- the only coup d'etat in the history of the US. Stoking fears of "Negro Rule," self-described white supremacists used intimidation and violence to destroy Black political and economic power and overthrow Wilmington's democratically-elected, multi-racial government. Dozens of Black residents were murdered, and thousands were banished. The story of what happened in Wilmington was suppressed for decades until descendants and scholars began to investigate. Today, many of those descendants -- Black and White -- seek the truth about this intentionally buried history.
