In 1942, as World War II reached Alaska, Aleut Americans were transferred to government camps 1,500 miles away, where an estimated 10 percent perished. As they prayed for deliverance, "friendly forces" looted their homes and churches in the Aleutian and Pribilof islands. The surviving Aleuts eventually joined Japanese Americans in seeking wartime reparations from the federal government. Filmed on location in Alaska and Washington, D.C., this poignant, richly textured film contains rare archival images and compelling interviews with Aleut internment survivors - many of whom are speaking out for the first time in more than 60 years. Lucinda Hinojos, known professionally as La Morena, was commissioned by the NFL as the first Native American artist to design theme art for a Super Bowl. Her artwork was featured on Super Bowl LVII tickets, displays, footballs and more. Amongst this notable work is a 9, 500-square-foot mural, the largest to date created for a Super Bowl. La Morena, who is Chicanx, Apache, O'odham and Yaqui, enlisted the help of other Indigenous Artists from various Native and Indigenous Nations to complete the mural in just 22 days. He'll also meet with "Captain Jimmy" Bernard, a Lennox Island Elder who has worked with archeologists who have uncovered ancient artifacts near Lennox Island buried by time alongside piles of oyster shells that carbon date to 10,000 years old! Together, they will teach Rich about the history and relevance of Oysters to the Mi'kmaq of PEI. Rich will also tour the Bideford Shellfish Hatchery with manager and Lennox Island's Head of Economic Development Mike Randall to get a glimpse into how the locals keep Malpeque Bay teeming with what is arguably one of the world's most famous oysters, and learn how the oyster industry is helping drive Lennox Island's economic future. And he'll head out on the bay with a local oyster harvester to "tong" a boatload of market-ready oysters, learning what goes into bringing this delicacy from the bay to the plate. With his culinary imagination sparked by the flavours found in the boreal forest of Lennox Island, Rich brings his new learnings to the firepit, inspired to create some new and exciting Oyster dishes for everyone to enjoy, including the viewers at home. As a descendent of the Amazigh people native to North Africa, Manel specializes in Amazigh tattoos. With tattooing traditions no longer practiced, her grandmother's generation are the last to carry the traditional designs and knowledge. Since many still depend on oral transmission of their cultural knowledge, Manel travels to remote villages and searches for the knowledge found in the collective memory of elderly people. When she finds a tattoo, she takes pictures and adds it to her research. She then modernizes the design for present-day reproduction. Manel is the only person archiving traditional Amazigh tattoos.

Lucinda Hinojos, known professionally as La Morena, was commissioned by the NFL as the first Native American artist to design theme art for a Super Bowl. Her artwork was featured on Super Bowl LVII tickets, displays, footballs and more. Amongst this notable work is a 9, 500-square-foot mural, the largest to date created for a Super Bowl. La Morena, who is Chicanx, Apache, O'odham and Yaqui, enlisted the help of other Indigenous Artists from various Native and Indigenous Nations to complete the mural in just 22 days. It was a team driven by strong and resilient women. Rich Francis visits the Mi?kmaq community of Lennox Island, PEI, where he discovers the "Pearl of the Malpeque Bay", Oysters! He will visit with Sarah Bernard, a local Cultural Liaison and cook, who will treat Rich to her family's famous Seafood Chowder. He'll also meet with "Captain Jimmy" Bernard, a Lennox Island Elder who has worked with archeologists who have uncovered ancient artifacts near Lennox Island buried by time alongside piles of oyster shells that carbon date to 10,000 years old! Together, they will teach Rich about the history and relevance of Oysters to the Mi'kmaq of PEI. Rich will also tour the Bideford Shellfish Hatchery with manager and Lennox Island's Head of Economic Development Mike Randall to get a glimpse into how the locals keep Malpeque Bay teeming with what is arguably one of the world's most famous oysters, and learn how the oyster industry is helping drive Lennox Island's economic future. And he'll head out on the bay with a local oyster harvester to "tong" a boatload of market-ready oysters, learning what goes into bringing this delicacy from the bay to the plate. With his culinary imagination sparked by the flavours found in the boreal forest of Lennox Island, Rich brings his new learnings to the firepit, inspired to create some new and exciting Oyster dishes for everyone to enjoy, including the viewers at home. Written and directed by Sara Ben-Saud. Manel Mahdouani is a tattoo artist living in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. As a descendent of the Amazigh people native to North Africa, Manel specializes in Amazigh tattoos. With tattooing traditions no longer practiced, her grandmother's generation are the last to carry the traditional designs and knowledge. Since many still depend on oral transmission of their cultural knowledge, Manel travels to remote villages and searches for the knowledge found in the collective memory of elderly people. When she finds a tattoo, she takes pictures and adds it to her research. She then modernizes the design for present-day reproduction. Manel is the only person archiving traditional Amazigh tattoos.

It's the oldest Japanese-style garden in the United States. Located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, the Japanese Tea Garden has been part of that city's landscape for over one hundred years. In this episode of "California's Gold" host Huell Howser strolls through the serene garden enjoying its paths and bridges and flowering cherry trees. Huell also learns of the garden's rich history from descendants of the original Japanese family who at one time lived on and cared for the grounds. Originally created in 1894 for the California Midwinter International Exposition, it was supposed to be removed when the fair ended, but quickly became one of Golden Gate Park's most popular and beautiful attractions. Today, the Japanese Tea Garden endures not only as a legacy to the past, but as a shining piece of "California's Gold."
