Cyprus's Missing Citizens #845

Saturday, December 2, 05:00 pm on KPBS

Duration: 0:24:10

Description: Cyprus is an island-nation and former British colony that gained its independence in 1960. But since 1974 Cyprus has been a country divided, as war broke out between the ethnically Greek south and Turkish north. Even today one of the most painful aspects of the war that split Cyprus in two is the fate of hundreds of people on both sides who disappeared decades ago in the violence and were never found. Yet after reunification talks between the ethnic groups collapsed this summer, one hopeful spot for reconciliation in Cyprus is the sensitive work being done by scientists attempting to bring some closure to families who have missing relatives. NewsHour Weekend Special Correspondent Christopher Livesay has the story.
