Universal Flu Vaccine #841

Saturday, November 18, 05:00 pm on KPBS

Duration: 0:26:46

Description: As winter takes hold and flu season begins, the CDC estimates 12,000 to 56,000 Americans die from the flu or complications of it every year, including around 100 children. But the current vaccine is only - on a very good year - around 60 percent effective. And, experts warn the next flu pandemic could be right around the corner. PBS NewsHour Weekend's Megan Thompson reports on the efforts to step up funding and research to discover a "universal" flu vaccine that could save lives and help prevent another global pandemic.
