The asteroid that exploded in the skies over Siberia injuring more than 1,000 and damaging buildings in six cities was a shocking reminder that Earth is a target in a cosmic shooting range. From the width of a football field to the size of a small city, the space rocks called asteroids have the potential to be killers: in a collision with Earth, they could set off deadly blast waves, raging fires and colossal tidal waves. But some audacious entrepreneurs look up at asteroids and see payday, not doomsday. That's because some asteroids are loaded with billions of dollars-worth of elements like iron, nickel and even platinum. While NASA plans an ambitious mission to return samples from a potentially hazardous asteroid, would-be asteroid miners are dreaming up their own program to scout for potentially profitable asteroids. Will asteroids turn out to be our economic salvation -- or instruments of extinction?

Sitting on an asteroid, more than a 100 million miles away from Earth, are a few ounces of soil scientists are anxiously awaiting to get their hands on - a sample that just might contain the molecular precursors to the origin of life. But just how will these scientists accomplish this? The half-hour documentary OSIRIS-REX: COUNTDOWN TO LAUNCH follows a multi-generational team of scientists and engineers as they struggle to design, construct, and deliver on time the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft and its components to NASA in anticipation of its September 2016 launch from Cape Canaveral. OSIRIS-REx is expected to travel more than 400 million miles to rendezvous with an asteroid named Bennu, whose diameter is less than half a mile. It will then use its suite of instruments to find the perfect place to gather a sample from the asteroid's surface, traveling another 400 million miles and a total of six years to bring that sample back to Earth. NASA's OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Return Mission is a 14-year, one billion dollar study aimed at learning more about one of the most fascinating and potentially hazardous asteroids in the solar system - before it potentially collides with Earth more than 150 years from now.

Often thought of as the other Mexican muralist, beside his more flamboyant compatriot Diego Rivera, Orozco was a leader of the Mexican Renaissance. His bold, dynamic frescoes had a profound impact on American painters and inspired FDR to put artists to work during the Great Depression. His most famous U.S. murals - The Table of Universal Brotherhood, The Epic of American Civilization and Prometheus - still convey their power in New York, New Hampshire and California. An iconoclastic who survived the loss of his left hand and destruction of more than half his early work by border agents, Orozco's travels back and forth across the U.S.-Mexico border evoke the larger Mexican migrant-immigrant experience and have provocative parallels to present times.
