The Committee is a documentary film about the little-known Florida Legislative Investigative Committee of the State Legislature from 1956-1965. Florida Senator Charley Johns chaired the committee, and its aim was to root out communist and homosexual teachers and students from state universities. It was successful in either firing or expelling more than 200 suspected gay and lesbian citizens. The film features two North Florida survivors (Rev. Ruth Jensen-Forbell and Chuck Woods) and one interrogator (John Tileston) who have never before spoken publicly about their experiences without anonymity. It culminates in a 50-year reunion between survivor and interrogator.

Hosted by Chloe Barnett - a Latina teenager, passionate conservationist and Florida resident - the film offers insightful interviews with present-day scientists, advocates and artists engaged in modern-day conservation activities. Chloe begins her journey in the Florida Keys, where a freshwater drought impacts the area's seagrass, mangroves and coral reefs. As she travels up through the expansive watershed in search of the headwaters in Orlando's suburbs, Chloe seeks to better understand the historic challenges of water management and pollution that now threaten this fragile ecosystem and the work being done by a new generation of advocates who are redefining the balance of women in conservation. Chloe grew up along the edge of this massive watershed, leading to her inspiration for this journey. As an advocate for the environment, Chloe was an active member of the Everglades Foundation's High School Leadership Committee. Additionally, she served as an intern with the Frost Science Museum through a program with the Smithsonian as an Ambassador representing the Museum of the American Latino in Washington, D.C. Her passion for the water eventually materialized through coral restoration initiatives in the Florida Keys as well as with the Rescue a Reef program at the University of Miami.
