Over 100 years before the COVID-19 pandemic set off a nationwide wave of fear and anti-Asian sentiment, an outbreak of bubonic plague in San Francisco's Chinatown unleashed a similar crisis. The death of a Chinese immigrant in 1900 would have likely gone unnoticed if a medical officer hadn't discovered a swollen black lymph node on his groin - evidence of bubonic plague. Fearing the city would become the American epicenter of the disease, health officials drew on racist pseudoscience to cover up the threat and protect San Francisco's burgeoning economy. As the outbreak continued to spread, public health officer Rupert Blue became determined to save his city. He established ties to Chinatown and ultimately proved that throngs of flea-infested rats-rather than the "foreign" habits of the Chinese-were the real reason the disease persisted. Based on David K. ICT's Stewart Huntington has more on a case that could have far reaching impacts for tribal efforts to honor the children who died at the infamous institution. It isn't just fashion designers who get called out for using Native names and imagery to sell products, and that doesn't sit well with media professor Gary Rhodes. He's been campaigning against the practice for years-most recently, in an essay in The Washington Post. Rhodes specifically targets the Jeep Cherokee. Salmon is sacred to many Northwest coast tribes, including the Puyallup Tribe near Tacoma, Washington. It's also an important food source for a healthy diet. And now, the tribe is processing the catch for economic development. Stewart Huntington has the story.

This is the saga of the United Keetoowah Band, the first American Indian tribe to try and relocate across state lines, from Oklahoma to Arkansas, to reclaim their native land lost to them in 1828. The program is narrated by Jim Henson, a full blooded UKB, who tells the story from the Keetoowah perspective in both English and the Keetoowah language.
The National Native American Veterans Memorial, located on the grounds of the National Museum of the American Indian, stands as a tribute to all American Indian, Native Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian veterans. It was designed by Harvey Pratt, a Vietnam veteran himself. Pratt, a Cheyenne Peace Chief and Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal citizen, submitted his design along with over five hundred other artists in 2017. The next year, he was chosen as one of six finalists, and finally as the winning artist that same year. Groundbreaking for the memorial took place in 2019, with a planned dedication the next year. However, Covid-19 changed the plans drastically, and the dedication had to wait until November of 2022. The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes traveled to Washington, DC with a large group of C&A veterans and elders, and Cheyenne and Arapaho Television was invited.

Many years ago, Kaax'achgook of the Kiks.adi clan of Southeast Alaska disappeared at sea and was thought lost by his family and people. Three years later he returned with a song telling of his experiences. Years later, a young First Nations man named Pete Sidney went off to fight in WW2. When he came back after being away for six years, his mother Angela sang this song for him.
