It's now sundown and the table is set with beef and potato stew, green beans, candles, a kiddish cup, and challah bread. Once everyone gathers at the table, Meredith lights the candles and says a blessing in Hebrew to welcome Shabbat. Victor then says a blessing to the children and together they say a blessing over the grape juice and challah bread. After everyone enjoys the meal, Charlie's friends thank her for including them. Last week President Joe Biden was in Arizona to honor the legacy of the late US Senator John McCain. ICT's Mark Trahant talked to Stacy Leeds about the president's visit, Sen. McCain, and an upcoming anniversary. Leeds, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, is the Willard H. Pedrick Dean and Regents Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, Arizona State University. Congress has funded the government at current 2023 levels for 45 days, through Nov. 17. All this happened because a divided Republican party did not have the votes to propel its own plan forward. On Friday Republican leaders in the House proposed a short-term spending bill that would have required 30 percent budget cuts across the board. But that measure failed. The final vote was 232 against to 198 in favor. A group of 21 far-right members voted no. On Saturday the Speaker Kevin McCarthy turned to Democrats for help. He told reporters, "We're going to be adults in the room. And we're going to keep government open."

Rich Francis visits the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, Quebec, where he discovers a prehistoric fish that's lived in the St. Lawrence as long as it?s been a river! He will visit with Eric "Dirt" McComber, a local fisherman, hunter and lacrosse coach, who will show Rich how he smokes and candies sturgeon, and will take Rich out on the river to learn the process involved in harvesting the often very large fish. He'll also meet with Brooke Rice, Eric's niece, who studies food security and nutrition at McGill University in Montreal. Together, they will teach Rich about the history and relevance of sturgeon to the Mohawk of the St. Lawrence river regions. With his culinary imagination sparked by the flavours found along the St. Lawrence, Rich brings his new learnings to the firepit, inspired to create some new and exciting sturgeon dishes for everyone to enjoy, including the viewers at home.

Claims between the United States and the Marshall Islands are ongoing, and the health effects have created a legacy that still lingers from these tests. A New Island is a documentary about the displaced people of this region who have immigrated to Springdale, Arkansas. They come for better jobs, education, and health care. And they come legally. A New Island introduces us to some of the people who have made this journey, as they try to preserve their island culture while adapting to life in the middle of America.

Citizens of the Shoshone-Bannock nation came together recently to plant seeds. This is part of an effort for future generations to carry on traditional harvesting, while understanding the ties Native languages have to the land. Roselynn Yazzie has the story. High hopes were dashed last month for the family of Edward Spott, a Puyallup boy who died at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in 1896. When the Army opened the gravesite, the remains that were found were not Spott's and no one can say where else in the graveyard they might be. ICT's Stewart Huntington reports. ICT's Correspondent Miles Morriseau took part in Saturday's Orange Shirt Day in Canada. It is a federal holiday there, officially known as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. ICT's Editor-at-Large Mark Trahant talked with Morriseau.

Opal Chavez is a Cheyenne elder who is married to Gerald Chavez, a Pueblo Cochiti. Together, they have forged out a happy life that has been tempered by mutual respect and a deep devotion to their traditions.
From his birth in the Bitterroot Mountains among the Salish Tribe, to his exploits as a warrior with the Lemhi Shoshone and Bannocks, Washakie was recognized early as an extraordinary person. But he made his historical claim to greatness in the second half of the 19th century, as chief of the Eastern Shoshone. He led the tribe in battle and in peace, and navigated the difficult negotiations with the U.S. government that eventually provided the Shoshone with a permanent homeland along the eastern slopes of the Wind River Mountains. The Documentary, funded in part by the Wyoming State Legislature, features a wealth of historical photographs and artwork, as well as aerial photography shot over the Wind River Indian Reservation. Research was conducted at the National Archives, the Smithsonian Institute and museums throughout the West.
