It highlights the USGS research program on the Desert Tortoise and the role of that research in managing desert environments to allow the species to recover and escape the threat of extinction. The program was originally released on the internet in segmented form in 2010. This re-release presents the program in its entirety. The program was produced jointly by the USGS Western Ecological Research Center (www.werc.usgs.gov) in cooperation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Desert Tortoise Recovery Office.

Close-up photography shows seed germination, with roots and stem emerging from the seed. He also shows how to harvest tomato seeds for planting in the spring. Even watermelon seeds can grow under the proper conditions. Sprouts, he explains are actually whole plants that we eat as a garnish in sandwiches. He shows two young viewers how to grow sprouts from seeds.
