Duration: 0:26:45

Description: The California Indian Nations College is aiming to become the first stand-alone, fully accredited tribal college California has had in decades. And it just received a major financial boost. In May, Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians Chairman Darrell Mike announced it has committed more than $9 million to support this goal. Arctic Indigenous Peoples have an increased risk to exposure to harmful chemicals, according to new Environmental Science and Pollution Research. Vi Waghiyi, Environmental Health and Justice Program director at Alaska Community Action on Toxics led the study. Holly Cook Macarro is from the Red Lake Nation and a partner with Spirit Rock Consultant. Minnesota's Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, White Earth Nation, is on the primary ballot on Aug. 9. It's been a challenging four years for this Ojibwe woman and Gov. Tim Walz with the pandemic and the murder of George Floyd.
